A Liturgy for a Panic Attack
Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid. John 14:27
Almighty Father, You are bigger when the moment feels overwhelming.
Nothing is bigger than you, and nothing can take the space that you hold in your creation.
King of kings, Lord of Lords, help the world feel small again
And let the waves still.
Saviour who stilled the waves of the storm and calmed the tempest while you rested,
Do it again.
Remind us of how you walked on water, and that my fears can be stilled, too.
Remind us of how you are omnipresent and that this overwhelming moment is not outside of your care.
Remind us of how you were with your Son in the garden, and you will not part from us now.
Remind us that if you can make the heavens and the earth and call it good, that you too can be sovereign over this moment of pain and despair.
Ground me in your love.
Ground me in your hope.
Ground me in your peace.
Ground me in your beauty, letting the things I behold in front of me capture my attention over the things unseen in my mind.
Lord, help me to be present in this exact moment and aware of the awe you placed into your creation.
Let not my heart or my mind be troubled, but take the yoke from me and leave me with your peace.
Amen.
